WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Debra Gay Buchanon, 52, born Jan. 9, 1957, in Winter Haven, Fla., went to be with her Heavenly Father Nov. 11 in St. John, Virgin Islands.
Left behind are her beloved children, Cody, Dustin and Brookelyn Buchanon; their father, Clyne Buchanon of Lakeland. Surviving her are her mother, Barbara Norman of Parrish; her brother and his wife, Ben and Lisa Marshall of Lutz; and her sister, Melody Weber of Atlanta.
Gay graduated from Brandon High School, attended Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida. Her career was in human resources. She was an active volunteer with Viste senior organization and her church. Her leisure time was spent with her children and family, at the shore, whenever possible. Her lifelong passion for the water and beach was obvious in her home. She enjoyed everything outdoors, especially growing ornamental plants and flowers.
Gay's big heart and caregiving knew no boundaries. She was a wonderful wife, much-loved Mom, a precious daughter and sister and a good friend to many. She will live in our hearts forever.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at TBA Church, 5330 Lakeland Highlands Rd., Lakeland. Supper will follow at the Church.
Her family requests donations in her memory at any SunTrust Bank, "Barbara Norman Funeral Fund", for her last expenses and daughter, rather than flowers. Burial arrangements are still pending.
"Whether I'm here or there, I can hear the waves or smell the air."
Baker-Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
