Dewey Lee Hand

NASHVILLE — Dewey Lee Hand, 83, of Nashville, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Berrien Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home. The Rev. Junior Swain will officiate. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Lovein Funeral Home.

Mr. Hand was born on Aug. 8, 1916 in Jeff Davis County to William Jasper Hand and Edna Yawn Hand, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie Smith Hand, who died in 1991.

Mr. Hand was a retired public accountant and a member of Nashville First Baptist Church. He was former alderman and mayor for the City of Nashville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II and Korea. He was a Mason in Duncan Lodge 234 F&AM; and a member of the Nashville Post VFW and American Legion.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Donnie (Wadeen) Hand of Nashville and Billy Hand of Crawfordville, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara (Jay) Starling of Nashville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials are requested to the Berrien Health Advocates.

Lovein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
