James Cecil Stone

TIFTON — James Cecil Stone, 80, of Tifton died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Wayne Driskell and the Rev. Roger Tucker will officiate, with burial to follow in Lawrence Cemetery. Tommy Stone, Shane Stone, Ray Woods, Mitchell Weldon, Joel Bruce and Terrell Roberts will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Jerry Hobbs.

Mr. Stone was born on Nov. 2, 1929 in Tift County and was the son of Arthur and Flonnie Stone, both deceased. He was a caregiver to his wife of 61 years, Mary Frances Stone, who preceded him in death in February 2010. They are living together again in heaven. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, J.S. Stone and Arlen Stone. He was retired from ABAC and a member of Vanceville Congregational Christian Church. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard and helping others. He also loved going to the 6 a.m. breakfast club meetings at McDonald's.

Mr. Stone is survived by his children, Peggy and Gary Greer of Tifton; and his grandchildren, Heather and Brandon Harper of Tifton and Heath and Kristy Greer of Hinesville. He loved playing with his three great-grandchildren, Reese Harper and Wyatt Harper of Tifton and Anslee Greer of Hinesville. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raiford and Mary Jo Stone of Tifton and Randall and Brenda Stone of Tifton; and five sisters and one brother-in-law, Dessie Carpenter of Tifton, Inez Weldon of Tifton, Wylene and Lawrence Webb of Tifton, Oleta Edge of Doerun and Faye Haynes of New Jersey.
