FITZGERALD —
David Leslie Cannard, 59, of Fitzgerald, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Paulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewain Joiner officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery will full military honors. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Cannard was born October 3, 1953 in Portland, Ore. to Betty Cannard and the late Raymond Cannard. He graduated from Roosevelt Catholic High School in Portland, Ore. where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was retired Sergeant First Class with 22 years service in the United States Army. During the Vietnam War era, he served in Korea and Panama. He was stationed in the Middle East during the Persian Gulf War. Following his retirement, he moved to Fitzgerald in 1989 from Fort Drum, New York. Mr. Cannard was employed by R.C.and R., Inc. as a regional manager for Subway restaurants. A former deputy for the Ben Hill County Sheriffs’ Department, he was a member of the St. Williams’ Catholic Church and an avid booster of the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Rosado Cannard of Fitzgerald; two sons. John and Randi Cannard of Washington, D.C. and Matthew Cannard of Fitzgerald; two daughters, Dr. Mary Long Cannard of Duluth and Reina S. Cannard of Fitzgerald; five grandchildren, Bailey Cannard, Evan Cannard, Tiara Cannard, Gerald Morgan, and Jackson Cannard; his mother, Betty Cannard of Portland, Ore.; three brothers, Michael and Carolyn Cannard of Houston, Tex., Patrick and Liz Cannard of Gladstone, Ore., and John Cannard of Portland, Ore.; and two sisters, Linda Cannard of Portland, Ore. and Barbara Butler of Tacoma, Wash.
