Roger Burdette

NASHVILLE — Roger Landers Burdette Sr., 69, of Nashville, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike McPherson, the Rev. Ray Calvin, the Rev. Willie Heath and the Rev. Larry Daughtry officiating. Burial will follow at Nashville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Lovein Funeral Home.

Mr. Burdette was born Feb. 7, 1941 in Chambers County, Ala., to the late Buford Landers Burdette and Helen Morton. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Burdette. He was a retired driver with Roadway Freight and was a member and deacon at Hope Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and scuba diver. He was very talented with his hands and enjoyed serving his church in any capacity needed.

Mr. Burdette is survived by his wife, Helen Cook Burdette of Nashville; one daughter, Mitzi Sumner of Seymour, Tenn.; two sons, Roger L. Burdette Jr. of Guyton and Harris Burdette of Nashville; one sister, Loretta Bennett of Hahira; two brothers, Dale Sumner of Nashville and Gerald Sumner of Brookfield; and nine grandchildren.

Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville is in charge of arrangements.
