OMEGA — Mrs. Christine Elouise Varnadoe Oliver, 85, of Omega, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Omega United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Mays and Bro. Brad Baker officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Omega City Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Andy Oliver, Brad Baker, Chad Baker, Zach Baker, Gene Marchant and Carlton Marchant. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Baker, Adam Baker, Alex Baker, Jones Ponder, Ray Hunt Sr., Larry Lamb, Tommy Hornbuckle and Jackie Cooper.
Mrs. Oliver was born April 2, 1924 to the late Robert Julian and Mildred Louise Hudson Varnadoe. She was a homemaker. She was a faithful member of Omega United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Mrs. Oliver dedicated her life to Christ and serving others.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Wayne Baker of Omega; one brother, Jackie Cooper of Tifton; three sisters and one brother-in- law, Louise Walker of Tifton, Bobbie and Eston Walker of Tifton and Rhonda White of Tifton; four grandchildren, Andy and Suzanne Oliver of Tifton, Brad and Brandy Baker of Hahira, Chad and Amy Baker of Snellville and Zachary Baker of Valdosta; eight great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Nathan and Mary Baker of Hahira and Katie, Adam, Emily and Alex Baker of Snellville; one daughter-in-law, Linda Oliver of Omega; several nieces and nephews; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death by her husband, William Eugene Oliver; her son, Bobby Eugene Oliver; one sister, Doris Selph; and her stepmother, Grace Cooper Varnadoe.
