Elizabeth Oglesby Herrin

ATHENS — Martha Elizabeth “Beth” Oglesby Herrin, 55, of Athens died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at Athens Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Graveside rites will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 1 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Cashiers, N.C. A memorial service will be held in Athens at a later date.

Beth was born May 6, 1957 in Rome to the late Dr. William H. Oglesby and Frances Girtman Oglesby. She lived in Tifton for 10 years and attended schools in the Tift County School System. Beth was an ardent musician who played the guitar and flute. Her greatest joy was to share her love of music and to encourage those who shared that passion. Departure from Beth’s presence always included big hugs and “I love you’s,” even at the end.

Beth is survived by her daughter, Rita Catherine Herrin of Greensboro, N.C.; her companion, Mike Crisp of Athens; her brothers, Mike Oglesby of Decatur and Bill Oglesby of Athens; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Lesa and Guy Cox of Tifton and Meg and Monty Scaggs of Lenox; her nephews and niece, Austin Paulk, Henry Cox, Jackson Oglesby, Will Cox and Becca Oglesby; her uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. Wilbur Oglesby of Tifton; and her aunt, Bessie Lee Oglesby of Albany.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nuci’s Space, a non-profit health and music resource center, 396 Oconee St., Athens, Ga. 30601, or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Pleasant Grove Road, Cashiers, N.C. 28717.
