Dorothy St. John


LAKELAND — Dorothy C. White St. John, 84, of Lakeland, formerly of Valdosta, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 in the Louis Smith Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lakeland chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Mrs. St. John was born in Quitman to the late Charles Marvin and Janie Ray (Bass) White. She graduated from Valdosta State University in 1971, receiving a bachelor’s of arts degree in education. She taught fifth grade at the Clyattville Elementary School in Lowndes County. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Valdosta, where she sang in the church choir. She is preceded in death by her husband, Julian Montgomery St. John; a sister, Janie White Morrow; and a brother. Marvin Peyton White.

Mrs. St. John is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice E. St. John and Gary Wheeler of Lakeland; son, Christopher D. St. John of Lakeland; grandchildren, Kevin Michael and Caysee Wheeler of Lake Park and Brian Ashley Wheeler of Lakeland; two great-grandchildren, Michelle Serenity Wheeler and Brayden Michael Wheeler; sister and brother-in-law, Maurolyse and J. Talmadge Webb of Tifton; brother-in-law, Vance A. Morrow Sr. of Columbia, S.C.; cousin, Emory D. Bass of Los Angeles, Calf.; and several nieces and nephews.
