VALDOSTA —
Hannah Elizabeth Griner and Samuel Jared Watson were united in marriage at a 5:30 p.m. ceremony Nov. 14, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Valdosta with the Rev. David Rogers of Crosspoint Church officiating the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Breman Griner of Alapaha. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Ingram and Mr. and Mrs. Troy Griner of Nashville. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Watson of Naylor. He is the grandson of Kathryn Yancey of Lakeland, the late Sam Yancey and the late Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Watson.
The bride, escorted by her father, wore an ivory satin gown made by Priscilla of Boston. The fitted silhouette, with a strapless notched neckline, flared at the hem and featured an embellished brooch at the center bust-line. She wore a borrowed ivory, satin-trimmed veil from her sister and was generously provided with jewelry by Girardin Jewelers. The bride and bridesmaids carried bouquets of fresh freedom red roses bound with ivory satin by John Glosson of J&D Designs in Douglas.
The bride’s sister, Lydia McCurdy of Cartersville served as matron of honor with Heather Medley of Watkinsville, Ansley Souther of Jacksonville, Fla., Austin Smith and Lori Smith, both of Douglas, Lori Spikes of Nashville and Dwan Simpson of Valdosta served as bridesmaids. The bridesmaids wore black taffeta knee-length gowns with black satin sashes.
Father of the groom, Bill Watson of Naylor, served as best man with Spence Romine, Thad Mitchell, Ashley Moore, Jake Purvis, Joey Wisenbaker and Scott Simpson, all of Valdosta, served as groomsmen.
The flower girl was Pressley Wade who wore an empire-waisted ivory satin gown handmade by the groom’s mother. She carried an ivory satin flower basket with an embellished brooch. The ringbearer was Parker Wade.
Bobby Ingram, the bride’s uncle, played piano while guests arrived. The groom’s sister, Chirsty Wade, opened the ceremony by singing “Holy Ground.” The grandmothers’ processional was to ”Surely the Presence” by Johnathan Montgomery and the bridal processional was to Montgomery’s “This Kind of Love.” Trista Wisenbaker, Tara Purvis and Johnathan Montgomery sang “I Love You Lord.”
The wedding was directed by Cathy Harrison.
RECEPTION
Following the ceremony, guests were invited to a reception hosted by the bride’s parents at the historical Threatte Center in Lakeland, where heavy hors d’ oeuvres were served at stations around the dining room. Catering and decorations was also done by Glosson of J&D Designs in Douglas.
The bride’s cake was a four-tiered cake covered in white buttercream icing with bands of black satin ribbon and red roses on the bottom of each tier. The groom’s cake was all chocolate and displayed with chocolate-covered strawberries.
The guests were entertained by The Fabulous Classics band.
On the evening prior to the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted family, friends and wedding party at a rehearsal dinner at Bas Bleu in downtown Valdosta.
The couple honeymooned in Aspen, Colo., and now reside in Valdosta.

Concert to benefit breast cancer victims
The story of how cancer has had devastating effects on two women in one local family led a local musician to organize a benefit concert to be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Cypress Grill at Lake Blackshear. Donations may be made at the door or online at the “Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure” Web site.
