Since 2003, your Tiftarea YMCA has guided health seekers. As health seeking has evolved, so have we – reshaping our buildings, activities and strategic partnerships.
Significant value has been added to your Y membership as a result of our partnerships with best-in-class organizations like Tift Regional Medical Center, Tift County Board of Education, University of Georgia and Abraham Baldwin College. Through their joint enrichment of our evidence-based programs like LIVESTRONG for Cancer Survivors, THE COACH APPROACH®, Youth Fit For Life™ and Start For Life™, we empower thousands of children and adults living with diabetes, cancers and obesity-related illness to enjoy a better quality of life.
Our promise to you is to deliver fun and goal-achieving programs, taught by highly competent and welcoming staff, and in first-rate facilities. Tiftarea YMCA membership now includes the current location on Westover Road and very soon, our beautiful new Tiftarea YMCA on Carpenter Road. The new location will house our offices and has a suite of exciting offerings for you:
•A childwatch area where children seven and under can play with friends while you get time for you
•The latest models in cardio equipment, circuit training and free weights
•A new “Ladies Only” center that enables us to deliver gender sensitive instruction
•A 3,000 square foot aerobics center with dramatic studio lighting effects and sound system
•Convenient on-site locker rooms and showers to get you on your way quickly after working out
•A new youth center to help give our youth a safe place to relax and be around positive role models
•A new one-half mile nature track with a low impact ropes course for team building
•An outdoor “Beach Volleyball” court to meet and share competitive fun with friends.
It can be difficult to know the impact of membership in the Y beyond your personal improved well-being. However, the Y creates a unique combination of personal and community impact. We will pledge to continue to find ways to deepen our impact.
Did you know:
•Your Y along with the Tift County Board of Education and 107 organizations fed over 57,334 meals and provided enriching programs to an average of 1757 children per day to become one of the top summer feeding programs in the USA for YMCAs.
•With the help of many volunteers, your Y will be able to furnish Christmas presents from Santa to over 175 children in the Tifton area that would not otherwise experience Christmas in any form. We still need you to volunteer to adopt a child for this project.
We hope you are as excited as we are about the difference your Tiftarea YMCA is making in your life and that of your community. We pledge our ongoing commitment to be good stewards of all our resources and to be ever mindful of the personal and community benefit you expect in return for that investment in us.

Letter to the Editor for May 15
As a grandson of Henry Harding Tift and a long-time resident of Tift County, I would like to tip my hat to Edd Dorminey for the pivotal role he played in petitioning the state legislature to officially recognize the original intent that Tift County be named in honor of Capt. Tift.

A day late and a dollar short...sort of
I caught a lot of flack the past couple of days because, and I quote, “You write a column and you didn’t write about your mom for Mothers Day?”Yeah. Um. Just yeah.
