Rants and Raves for March 12

Real kindness

“This is a Rave for the employees at Wendy’s on 20th Street in Tifton. On Thursday during lunch, a lady fell. Wendy’s employees quickly ran outside to her aid, called the ambulance and waited with her to make sure she was OK. Their quick response shows a real kindness and it was refreshing to see these young people show such compassion during a very busy, hectic time at their workplace. I thank them.”

The real world

“I hate 4-H being cut, but I am in favor of the state balancing its budget. I’m also in favor of the university system coming into the real world. We in small business have to balance our budgets every week. We have to meet every payroll. No one covers our deficit, and I feel that the university needs to do the same thing, including ABAC. I also see a lot of waste at ABAC and at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus that could be eliminated.”

Complain to CDC

“To ‘No access’: Trust me, the Health Department would have gladly given the swine flu vaccine to anyone during the early stages if they had been allowed. However, they had to follow the CDC guidelines. People need to complain to the CDC about the age limitations and the availability of the vaccine.”

Subsidies

“Farm subsidy issue. The purpose of this program was to provide this nation with a cheap, clean, reliable source of food. In the event of no farm subsidies, your food cost would have to triple at least and in most instances would not be available. Now, we could import our food from foreign countries who have no restrictions on food production. They fertilize with human waste, use toxic chemicals which are harmful to human consumption. Now, if we put all farmers out of business and on to the welfare rolls with food stamps to get food that would not be available, who would pay the taxes, ad valorem and income? Now, when you proclaim about farm subsidies, please don’t do it over a good meal.”

A little respect

“I think it would do some of these younger generations alive today some good to see some hard times, I’m talking about a lot harder than what we’re looking at right now. And then maybe, just maybe, they might have some idea what our Greatest Generation went through and maybe produce a little respect for them as well.”

Excellent letter

“Congratulations and thank you to Jeff and Lisa Gibbs for your excellent letter to the editor in Your Opinion. You were so right on so many details. It’s nice to have people we can trust.”

Just wait

“You think it was dumb that the government would send you out a notice telling you were going to get a census paper next week, wait until the week after that when they send you another notice asking you to make sure you please fill it out, and probably another one in a week or two thanking you for filling it out.”
