Rant and Rave for Feb. 8

Quaint concepts

“About the comments of ‘Lock 'em up,’ the Constitution prohibits excessive bail and guarantees the right to a lawyer in criminal cases. There is also the quaint concept of presumption of innocence until guilt is proven. Anyway, we can't afford jails the size of the Empire State Building.”

Professional and

thorough

“I would like to send a Rave to Dr. Harper at Family Eye Care Center. He is friendly, professional and thorough. I have problems getting my contacts just right and he did not give up until I was completely satisfied, no matter how long it took.”

Wonderful program

“A big RAVE for Lauren Smith, the media specialist at Matt Wilson Elementary for putting together such a wonderful program for the children at the school. Having the Tuskegee Airmen speak to those young people was a great way of educating those students about one of the brighter moments in a dark time in U.S. history in regard to race and racial prejudice. Well done!”

Check the results

“RE: ‘Red herring’ — I see your 10 most successful insurance agents and raise you 10 most successful lawyers. Might want to check the results of medical tort reform in Texas and California while you’re at it.  Defensive medicine is also a large time burden and financial burden on health care.”

A good thing

“I think Governor Perdue's restructuring plan is a good thing.  I have no doubt that an appointed cabinet could help us avoid some of the political circus atmosphere that has plagued our state.  The teabaggers are hollering about cabinet posts not answering to constituents — heck! Like they care much now.  The vast majority of voters don't even know what they're voting for — e.g., the only reason Kathy Cox got elected was that her name sounded like Cathy Cox.”
