Americans first
“The letter by Mr. Banks summarized a serious problem faced by Americans — a divided America. Do any local readers truly believe that the United States can continue a path of self-destruction for another 25 years? If they do, I have some ocean front property for sale in Tift County, real cheap. Voters! Wake up! Turn off the news channels and vote against all incumbents! We are Americans, not Democrats or Republicans!”
A country divided
“Mr. Banks, I take issue with your letter. Democrats controlled Congress the last four years of President Bush's term, so they need to step up and take their share of the blame for the mess this country is in. Obama and his team so far haven't shown me anything but how to make matters worse! The mid-term elections will show how much people are waking up to this growing problem in Washington.”
Dysfunctional vote
“The Constitution provides that the Vice President, as presiding officer of the Senate, cast a vote in the event of a tie. This obviously contemplates that legislation be passed by a simple majority vote. Why, then, does the Senate have a rule requiring a 60 percent vote? The Senate is dysfunctional and their rule is unconstitutional. Nothing of any consequence will ever get done in this country.”
Next to impossible?
“All these folks talking about Obama and Carter being our worst Presidents must have forgotten about Bush II. It would be next to impossible to be worse than that. Look where deciding everything along party lines has gotten us now.”
Finish the job
“Congress, stop dragging your feet and pass HEALTH CARE. We have carried this burden TOO long. I stand with President Obama in calling on Congress to finish the JOB.”
