Rant and Raves for Nov. 30

Man of many talents

“Now Thomas Sowell is an expert on the role of genetics versus environment in IQ scores and has conducted scientific studies of the subject. The last I heard, he was also an economics expert. He is apparently a man of many talents. Just ask him.”

Don’t worry

“A senior worries about being denied health coverage because of advanced age. To my knowledge, there is no upper age limit applied to Medicare. Such a limit would be a bad cruelty joke. Find something else to worry about.”

Thanks columnist

“Thanks to Dwain Walden for his article about the absurdity of the talk about secession. With the exception of the Tea Party, we are all probably agreed that such talk is, in fact, absurd. We need a strong, unified nation rather than a diverse bunch of small banana republics.”

Rubber-stamped

“In his e-mail, Saxby Chambliss opposes tax increases to cover "reckless spending" by government. He has been a member of the Congress that approved that reckless spending for many years and rubber-stamped whatever George Bush asked for. Now that the President is from the other party, Chambliss gets all frugal on us. This is just another example of the partisan politics that will run this country into the ground if it's not already there.”

Too sweet

“Sometimes the ironies of life are almost too sweet to enjoy. After all the votes have been counted, what is Romney's final, national total? It’s 47 percent.”
