Thanks trooper
“I would like to thank Trooper Pete Lukas. He pulled me over about two weeks ago for a seatbelt violation. I always wear my seatbelt, and for that one minute drive I was taking down the street, I didn't put it on, and he got me! So, in my eyes, a higher power was lookin' after me because I always wear that dang seatbelt! Thanks Trooper Lukas!”
Challenging lights
“I also have a challenge with the traffic lights. Please explain why the City spent so much money moving sidewalks, widening roads, painting center lanes and installing new signals only to have a nonfunctioning left turn signals? This happens in several locations. Also, the duration of red/green is haphazard at best.”
Outdated and
pointless
“Eric Holder's statement about no right to possess guns was made long before the Supreme Court decided otherwise. Rants about Holder's statement are outdated and pointless. People are just looking for something to complain about these days, especially in regard to the government.”
Happy power
“The powerful seem pretty happy with things as they are. Things sure slow to improve around here. To get power into the hands of the people who actually have a motive to make a difference will require planning, cunning and education. Power will flow from that. Let's support programs at our community libraries.”
Some don’t like it
“Some people don't like the idea of local police patrolling I-75 because it looks more like a revenue-raising deal than a law enforcement function. In some extreme cases, the state has threatened to take over all funds raised by interstate fines.”

Letter to the Editor for May 15
As a grandson of Henry Harding Tift and a long-time resident of Tift County, I would like to tip my hat to Edd Dorminey for the pivotal role he played in petitioning the state legislature to officially recognize the original intent that Tift County be named in honor of Capt. Tift.

A day late and a dollar short...sort of
I caught a lot of flack the past couple of days because, and I quote, “You write a column and you didn’t write about your mom for Mothers Day?”Yeah. Um. Just yeah.
