No Ike fan
“Well, as a 87-year-old triple veteran, I disagree with the article by Charley Reese in this morning’s paper. ...I went with Gen. Alexander Bolen when he was Third Army commander to Athens when Eisenhower came down to play golf. Eisenhower came along and shook hands with everybody and he was a pleasant type of person in many ways, but I was just never an Eisenhower man. I think the real people we have had in this country are the people like Gen. Douglas McArthur, George Patten and Ronald Reagan. Eisenhower didn’t have the backbone that was needed as Patten said to win the war and the peace, which would have happened if he had left him alone, in my opinion.”
Thanks for clean-up
“A great job done to the candidates that ran for office. They have already come by and picked up their signs and they won’t make a mess on the streets. Thanks.”
We’re proud of you
“I have a rave for the Tift County Cross Country teams, the Lady Devils and the Blue Devils. What a great year you have had and all the hard work you have put in. Good luck at state on Saturday in Carrollton. We are so very proud of you. Keep up the good work. To Ms. Patty, the best coach ever, we love you. Thanks for all of the hard work that you do and the encouragement that you give to our teams. Go Tift County.”
Who?
“I just wanted to find out when Pres. Eisenhower’s name get changed to John D. instead of Dwight D. and the middle is David.”
Do the right thing
“I drove my 90-year-old mother to Affinity Tuesday. After going to her car in the parking lot, the right rear bumper was damaged and the other car was gone. Her car is a silver Cadillac (that was) parked facing the building between 4:30 and 5:30. If you have insurance, your liability will cover it with no cost to you. My mother has to pay a $250 deductible to repair it. I think your car is white and will have a scuff mark on your left front bumper. All you have to do is leave your name with the Allstate office on Tift Avenue. Thanks for your honesty.”
Don’t just complain
“As an educator I agree with ‘hold them accountable.’ If other educators don’t agree they are the ones that would be out of a job. If parents could choose the school their child attends our school systems would be different. Complaining about it in the Rant & Rave can only go so far, though. Parents need to contact their elected officials and get involved!”
Slow down
“I wish someone could come up with a solution about the caution light on Brighton Road. I was involved in an accident and was hurt (not my fault). Also, just this week alone there have been three more wrecks. People are not slowing down. ...It is a speed death trap waiting to happen. Watch out.”
Always friendly
“To Jernigan’s Barber Shop: Mr. Jernigan, thanks for your longtime service. It is nice to know there are still nice people in Tift County. You’re always friendly and let your customers leave smiling.”
