Rant and Rave for November 28, 2006

See ya at the Dome

“This is a rave for Coach Walls and the rest of the coaches and especially to the Tift County Blue Devils. We as part of Tift County are very proud of our guys. We hope and pray and wish them the best of luck throughout the rest of the season. We are so proud that you made it this far and we want to congratulate you and let you know that we do care. The fan club cares and the crowd, as you can see, cares. Keep up the good work and we’ll see you at the Dome. Don’t forget to go online and vote for Israel Troup for Athlete of the Week. www.tiftongazette.com.”

Where are they?

“I was interested in the paper about the global warming already killing some of the species and in my time in duty I was away from south Georgia for a good many years. But, when I was a young man, when we had mulberry trees and the white shirts... I don’t know if that is the correct name of the bird or not but they had white shirts on their backs and they would come in as thick as gnats. Since I have been home over the last 20 years, I haven’t seen one. I can’t help but wonder if the birds known to south Georgia people are extinct. They were beautiful birds and I miss them.”

Southern hospitality

“We just want to give a rave out to a young lady. We are from New Orleans and we were coming through Tifton, Ga. There was a young lady in the drive-through and there was a young lady who served us by the name of Deidra. Out of all the years this is the first time we really had southern hospitality the way she greeted us. Everything was so professional and she was so kind and polite with a smile. We just want her to know how much we really do appreciate her kindness. At that time, we were traveling through with a death in the family, tragedy in the family, and she was just a big support.”

We’re lucky

“I would like to rave about Fulwood Park. It is beautiful. Tifton is very fortunate to have this beautiful display for all to enjoy. The poor as well as the rich can drive through the park and be delighted and receive great joy from the beautiful displays. Putting joy in one’s heart is fulfilling a need. The one who feels that the city should spend the money elsewhere needs to drive through the park several times. I believe you have a need.”

Set an example

“If students are not allowed to bring in outside food, the same should apply to the faculty. The faculty should be setting an example for the students. The rules should apply to the school as a whole, not to selected members of the school. The same goes for the boss of others. The boss should set an example for their employees.”

Celebrate

“How will your city, school, club, or family celebrate Bill of Rights Day on Dec.15? Check JPFO www.jpfo.org/bord.htm to see if your state or local elected officials have resolved to commemorate BORD, and then make sure they do. BTW - it takes a whole five minutes to read this seminal document out loud.”

Holiday kindness

“I want to leave a rave to the Omega Baptist Women on Missions for the beautiful flowers that Patty brought me and also for the Omega Baptist young people who brought the fruit basket around the night before Thanksgiving. God bless them.”
