Rant and Rave for Dec. 7, 2007

Who are the buyers?

“I would like to know who is going to be buying all these new houses that are planned. There are so many people who have lost or will lose their jobs, no one can afford to buy a new house.”

Fine people

“I would like thank Mayor Paul Johnson and his wife Patricia for the last 10 years in Tifton. I know that Mr. Paul has done his very best for Tifton and he’s worked hard at it. Tifton’s been his life and Patricia and him both are fine people and we want to thank you for everything that he’s done for us.”

State fiasco

“I would like to call in a Rant about the Public Defender’s office and the article that the staff may be furloughed. I think that it completely needs to be given back to the counties and the state needs to stay out of it. We had a better system, at least in the Tifton circuit, before the state got hold of it.”

The real headline

“Today’s headline was ‘Bank of America robbed.’ The real robbery headline should have been ‘Citizens robbed of $200,000 supporting Lankford Manor.’”

Why stop there?

“Now we know how much Lankford Manor cost, let’s get a total cost for how much CityNet has cost taxpayers this year.”

Definitions

“A vigilante is a person exercising police power for the capture, speedy trial and summary punishment of criminal offenders. Citizens following a suspect and providing valuable information to the police fall short of being labeled a vigilante by the chief of police. How many times have you heard ‘report suspicious people in vehicles to the police?’ Does reporting somehow make you a vigilante? Maybe we need a chief who knows the difference between good citizenship and a vigilante. I’m a member of a neighborhood watch program. Does that make me a vigilante?”

Hmmm....

“Can a citizen in Tifton make a citizen’s arrest without being arrested as a result?”

Follow the system

“Please do not drop off your child ( at school) in the middle of oncoming traffic. The system works really well with supervision...If you don’t follow the system, the system won’t work for you.”

Seeing signs

I agree with ‘Attend meeting.’ Everywhere you look there is someone with a 40 or 50-acre field that they are trying to develop into a subdivision and the two governments only see dollar signs. We must have input or they are going to take our country way of life away from us.”

Take part

“‘Bad politicians are sent to Washington by good people who don't vote.’

— William E. Simon”

Merry Christmas

“The Christmas season is here, and we should all show a little more kindness and compassion for others... things we should do all year! Merry Christmas!”
