Fund everything
“Edd Dorminey is right. If the community wants basketball at ABAC, let them put up the money. But at the same time they also need to fund the math, English and other faculty positions lost in the budget cuts. It always amazes me how athletics is always more important than academics.”
A great success
“A very special THANK YOU to Jeff Parson, Georgia Sports Medicine, Kelli Strickland and Stafford Development, RAINDOG, Crossroadz and Kirsten Underwood for making the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bands-n-Brew Event a great success. Thanks to Nancy Scott, Vicki Dees, Marsha Anderson, James Nixon and Beth Vowell for volunteering your time. Thank you to Nancy Bryan for keeping the program going for the children in our community!”
Expectations
“A ‘tip’ is because I want to, not because I have to. Just because you expect it doesn't mean you will get it. I expect to win the lottery.... There are many professions that provide a personal service and all do not expect or warrant a tip. When did you tip the folks at the doctor's office? The folks at the grocery, the folks at the bank, the folks at the auto dealership that fixed your car, the person that changed your tires, oil etc. ...I pay price as posted, why should I pay more. You are employed by the establishment with whom you work, not by the customer.”
Road hazards
“There are trees and bushes all over the Tifton area that need to be trimmed back. In some places, you have to pull way too far out into the cross-street to see either way. If you stop where you are legally supposed to stop, you can't see. It is very dangerous.”
Wrong choice
“It is unfortunate that ABAC decided to discontinue their basketball programs since basketball was a sport that all the students could go to and enjoy. The basketball programs recruited locally and gave local students a chance at an education. Instead, they chose to keep sports that do not draw large crowds and provide scholarships to foreign students in order to be competitive nationally.”
Random kindness
“I want to say that there was a wonderful job done by a young lady who was coming out of the parking lot of the bakery on a day that it was raining cats and dogs. She stopped and got into a trunk and got out an umbrella and then handed it to the young man who rides around town collecting cans to keep him from getting wet. There are still random acts of kindness being performed. We need to remember those.”
Mobilize
“Doing away with the basketball at ABAC is absurd. Not only is it shortsighted, but it makes me question the leadership ability of the leaders at ABAC now. Perhaps the alumni should organize action.”
Way to go
“This is one of the few times I’ve seen academics win over athletics. Way to go, ABAC.”
