Rant and Rave for July 20, 2008

Add it on

“Why don’t restaurants just go ahead and add the tip amount to the menu price? If you are EXPECTED to leave a certain amount they should just go ahead and adjust the menu prices. I don’t go to Wal-Mart to buy something and get to the checkout counter and have to pay for the item PLUS tip the check-out person. Just add it in and if someone feels their waitress/waiter did a better than normal job they could leave more, but at least you know what the price is before you order!”

Staying safe

“Yes, there is crime in Tifton. Where there are humans there is crime. I have lived in big cities across this country and I have never felt threatened. I make it a point to stay out the bad areas because I have no business there. If you don't go to sleep in a cemetery or in the parking lot of a bar you will probably be safe.”

The right thing

“If people worried more about academics on a college level and also a high school level more than sports our students would indeed excel. President Bridges is a ‘do the right thing’ type of guy and I believe when all the facts are in — it will be obvious that he did the right thing!”

Take ‘em down

“To all the candidates whose elections are complete: Please take your political signs down. You wasted no time getting them up, so please do so getting them down. Let’s get Tifton cleaned up.”

Therapy angels

“I’d like to leave a Rave for the physical therapists at Tift Health Care. They are a bunch of angels. They are patient, understanding, kind and they also make therapy fun. I’ve been a patient out here for over a month, and they have really been terrific. There’s Christy and Michelle and Michelle and Melinda and Kelly and Katie and Terri. I don’t know their last names, but they are all exceptional young ladies. I call them my angels. I’m so proud of all of them.”

Off to a good start

“Red Lobster of Tifton would like to say thank you to Fred’s Department Store in Tifton and Sylvester for helping us provide school supplies for 30 needy children. Again, thanks for helping these kids get started this school year.”

Transfer payments

“ABAC drops the basketball programs and many of the players had signed contracts and had scholarship money promised to them. I can understand budget cuts and tough decisions, but ABAC says the players could still use the scholarships money already promised to attend ABAC. So would it be unreasonable for ABAC to expand on that offer to say that if these kids have a chance to play at some other college but are too late to get scholarship that ABAC will transfer the scholarship money promised to the other college. I’m sure it wouldn’t be an easy task, but these kids didn’t do anything wrong. They just believed in the promises made to them by ABAC and their representatives.”
