Rants and Raves for March 19

Tax liquor

“I so agree with the ‘Revenue producer’ that was in today's Rant & Rave. Not only does alcohol cause tremendous health problems, it also takes numerous lives each year. How many of you have ever read an article regarding motor vehicle injuries and/or deaths because a person got behind the wheel of his car after smoking a cigarette? Cigarette smokers are treated like lepers and have been taxed for this so many times I can't count. The only reason I can think of for not taxing alcohol is because there are so many people that drink, it would be in their best interests to keep pointing their fingers at smokers and will save them from having to pay exorbitant taxes on their vices.”

Excellent group

“A Rave is offered to the administrator and staff of the Tifton Library. What a excellent group of people who always seems so interested in helping the users to find their needs quickly. The newly renovated library is such a great improvement for our community and the staff there just make it a perfect visit. Thank you to all responsible for the renovation and administrator and staff selections. Another wonderful improvement for Tifton and Tift County.”

Foresight &

initiative

“Congratulations and thank you to The Tifton Heritage Foundation for having the foresight and then taking the initiative to fund the purchase of the trees. Thanks also to everyone who donated and the governmental agencies who cooperated to make this a reality. The idea to be proactive in Fulwood Park is also a very good one. It is a shame that local governments see the value of our trees, but the state DNR uses them primarily as a source for revenue.”

Nebulous projects

“I thought all the various governments were broke, but they continue to pump out grant money for nebulous projects. I guess it helps to get some politician re-elected.”

Leave Israel alone

“Obama and Biden need to understand that Israel needs to do what they feel is best for them. We tell them don’t, stop, but we do what we want. Leave them alone and they will handle it. They have someone higher than Obama and Biden on their side.”

Prune azaleas

“Please prune the azaleas that are obstructing the view from pulling out on 20th Street located close to Tift Regional Medical Center. Thanks.”

Hang out here

“I would like to answer the question where in this town do the old geezers go to drink coffee, talk politics, play checkers or chess. We would welcome you downtown at the Main Street Scoop. Checkers and checkerboards are provided. Harper’s in the Myon Restaurant, Giggles, Mi-Lady Bakery and any other downtown location.”
