Rants and Raves for November 4

Great display

“Kudos to the family that decorates their home for the enjoyment of others. The people in question live at 909 Florida Ave. My daughter really enjoyed their display. It's the talk among the Eighth Street Middle School. They really enjoy your display. Keep up the good work.”

Courteous help

“I would like to send a RAVE for the professional level of help and courtesy displayed by Renee Bennett at TRMC Patient Financial Services. Thank you, Renee!”

A shame

“Here’s a quote from the front page of the Wall Street Journal on Aug. 19, 2009: Only about a quarter of the 2009 high school graduates have the skills to succeed in college. Now that’s a shame. A greater shame is that we hear nothing from parents, parent associations, local social clubs, our local government. It’s as if this deplorable situation just doesn’t exist. Now that’s a downright dirty shame.”

Surprise

“With all the bleeding hearts in this country, sex offenders having to register or be subject to any kind of regulation amazes me.”

Explain that

“It seems to me that our system isn’t working, period, whether it’s under Democratic rule or whether it’s under Republican rule. So all you finger pointers explain that one to me.”

Outstanding

pharmacist

“I would like to give a Rave for John Ewing that works at Walgreen Pharmacy in Tifton, Ga. Walgreen is very, very lucky to have him in their pharmacy department. He is a great, great pharmacist and I would like to give him this Rave because he definitely deserves it.”

Congratulations

“Congratulations to Cindy Proctor for being named Teacher of the Year for Berrien County.”

The real world

“There was a brief moment when the big-box stores could have been prevented from locating here. That moment has passed. They are here now. Presently, our tax dollars are being used to bail out most of the domestic auto manufacturers and most of the big banks in this country. We can't be expected to use our discretionary income to bail out local businesses that aren't competitive. We are forced to live in the real world.”

Perfect opportunity

“I had to call in to correct the Rave in the newspaper from Wednesday the 28th. It is not the 17th Amendment that is the problem. There is perfect opportunity for our two senators, Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson, to be the voice of Georgia. The 17th Amendment was passed in order to give Americans more direct influence in the political process. I would say the Ranter is probably also in favor of the Electoral College, which is another huge issue and problem we have with the government.”
