Rant and Rave for Nov. 21

Shop local

“In answer to the person who took his TV to Nashville. There is no need to send your business to other counties. When I need TV service I call Buddy Clements. He's local and has 38 years experience. Spend your money locally.”

Move on

“Both sides of the CityNet debate have good points. However, this is a done deal. CityNet no longer belongs to us; it’s been SOLD. We owe the money to repay the debt and that isn’t going to change. CityNet wasnt the best idea, but it certainly wasn’t the worst. Stop bickering and move on.”

Take ownership

“Roy, good article on ‘No partisan debate on this issue,’ but you are implying politics and corporations are the problem and laws are the fix (bigger government).  Your last paragraph is where your focus should be.  If ‘We the People’ are involved, educate ourselves and hold politicians responsible, then who cares how much money someone/corporations throw out there to try and buy votes. The power is with the voters and if we are engaged the end result will be good. Because we have not been responsible voters, as a nation, we get what we deserve. Take ownership; you owe it to future generations.”

Missing lesson

“I wonder why parents will spend $20,000 to $30,000 on a vehicle for their children, but never bother to teach them ‘a vehicle is one of the largest murder weapons made.’

Information, please

“If the City issued any official statement about the CityNet debt, I missed it. How much is owed? What is the plan to pay off the debt? How long will it take? What portion of the City revenues will be involved? Do we qualify for bankruptcy? Is it too bad to talk about? Information, please.”

Editor’s note: The Gazette interviewed City Manager Mike Vollmer about the details of the CityNet sale and remaining debt in a story published Sept. 11. Go to the Gazette’s Web site, www.tiftongazette.com, and search the archives for “Mike Vollmer” or “CityNet.” The story is entitled “City to borrow approximately $5.8m to help pay off CityNet.”

Big thank-you

“This is a Rave. A great big thank-you goes out to Chili’s of Tifton for their support of local schools. Chili’s Give Back Night is a great community service project and enables schools to earn extra dollars for our children. Thanks, Chili’s. Keep up the good work.”

Bring pictures back

“To the person who stole the pink Georgia purse out of the silver car, you can keep it. Just be decent enough to bring me my pictures out of my wallet or tell me where to find them. You know where I live. I’m a single mother, and the money you took from me was for my son’s birthday.”
