I have been watching the Rant and Rave for a while now concerning the CityNet debacle and reading various comments and feel I must put in my 2 cents.
I think Hayward was way off base in his comments about some of our public servants. While I don't personally know any of these gentlemen, I have seen the dedication they have exhibited over time and in my opinion they are all great public servants. I speak, of course, of our Mayor Cater, Joe Lewis, Dave Hetzel and Roosevelt Russell.
I was not a resident of our fair city when the CityNet idea was born, but I am certain these few councilmen did not arbitrarily put this plan into place. I don't know if it was approved via public referendum, but that is a moot point now.
I think to place the blame correctly we as citizens should blame ourselves. If people would have connected to it like the council had planned, CityNet would have been a thriving enterprise for our City. However, multitudes did not subscribe because they opposed the idea. What happened to CityNet would not have happened if citizens had supported it.
It is lost forever now, so get over it and stop pointing fingers and place the blame where it's due: Squarely on the citizens of Tifton.
I marvel at why men even vie for a seat in local government. It is a thankless job. Good luck, Jamie and council.
