Call
“To the person that lost Duke: My heart goes out to you. I have a black lab (Jake) that is 1 1/2 years old and if you would be interested, I would love to give him to your family. You can contact me at 386-9417.”
Christmas expense
“Explain this to me please...the city says it wants to furlough employees to save money; they say our police officers can't take their cars home because it costs the city so much...and they can't afford to give out raises or bonuses for the holidays...so how can they justify paying for all these Christmas lights for the next two months? Are they getting it for free? I'd like to know how much the city is spending on these lights; I bet the lights cost more than the patrol car program and I'm sure it could pay a lot of holiday bonuses. The city must not be hurting that bad if they can afford this.”
Just vote ‘no’
“Mr. Wetherington is correct in stating that Congress is bought and paid for. There is, however, a simple solution. The corporations have the money, we have the vote. Just vote against all incumbents and the corporations will have no incentive to fund their re-election campaigns. There is no difference between the parties anyway.”
With sympathy
“Reply To: ‘He'll be missed’: I am so sorry your puppy was hit on Baldwin Drive. If something is not done about speeders on Baldwin Drive and the Fulwood 500, I fear a child may be hit next. A vehicle is one of the largest murder weapons made. Maybe the Tifton Police Department can convince some of these irresponsible speeders! My heart feels for you.”
Lashing out
“Remember if you are lashing out at the office of the president and his cabinet about anything and everything, then you might realize that they must be doing something right. Why? Because you are always writing about them and talking on TV about them. Keep it up! That will ensure another term.”
Customer service
“This is a Rave for Rachel Barfield, who works in the Cardiac Center at Tift Regional. I’d like to say how helpful she was to me and my family while one of my relatives was having a test. Thank you, Tift Regional, for hiring people like Rachel. She was very courteous, very nice and very helpful to us the whole time we were there. Thank you again.”
Here & now
“In response to Mr. Wetherington’s letter to the editor, he states and I quote: ‘Democracy will no longer be a government of all Americans, but a government of special interest groups by special interest groups and for special groups.’ I say that the day is here now and has been for a long time. The so-called democracy we have now is made up of three groups. They are the Congress, lobbyists and big corporations. Politicians only use your votes to get elected. Once elected, they represent the lobbyists and the corporations that buy their vote in Congress.”
