A prediction
“Here’s a prediction: History will show Obama as the worst president of modern times, that is if he doesn’t appoint himself as king first. Right now, as the economy goes, he’s making Jimmy Carter look like a genius.”
Carter redux
“To the person who wants to see Jimmy Carter as president again, I remember how the interest rates were high and we had great problems. The only reason Carter was good at all was because he hired some good people who made the right decisions. President Carter ought to be happy; thanks to the current administration, he will no longer be remembered as the worst president ever.”
Needing help
“It was a terrible thing, what happened to the people in Haiti, and the U.S. did the right thing sending them aid. My problem is, we have a lot of African-American folks right here in the U.S. that need medical help. They’re working people, contributing to this country but can’t get into the hospitals. We shouldn’t bring the Haitians to our hospitals when we need that space for American citizens.”
Same ol’ feeling
“It’s funny; I get the same nauseous feeling when I see Nancy Pelosi’s face on television that I did when I saw Donald Rumsfeld’s face during the Bush administration.”
Moving mountains
“To the people of Southeast Georgia: If you are concerned about the coal power plant proposed for Ben Hill County, go to yahoo.com and type in ‘Power for Georgians.’ Take note of the destruction this plant will do for Georgia and the Appalachian mountains. They’ll tear the mountain down to get to that clean-burning coal.”
The ‘enemy’
“If we thought Osama Bin Laden might try to release 100 pounds of mercury into the air in Fitzgerald every year, we’d have a collective conniption fit. Yet, we’re seriously considering allowing a coal-fired electric generation plant to do just that. In the words of Walt Kelly, ‘We have met the enemy and he is us.’ ”
Lock ‘em up
“I have two questions I’d like to ask. One is: When our police department arrests criminals, why do we allow them bail to get back out; and Two: Why should we use our taxpaying dollars to get these criminals lawyers when they go to court? If they committed a crime, they ought to stay in jail.”
Irresponsible
“The Georgia Legislature will consider giving vouchers to students of military families and foster children to attend private schools. How irresponsible can you get during an economic crisis? Where would the funds come from? Reduce funds for public schools and fire or furlough more teachers? This makes about as much sense as encouraging people to take their guns to church.”
A thank you
“I’d like to send a shout out to Mr. Charles Dixon in Berlin. He’s a very good Samaritan.”
