The 8th Annual Celebrity Waiters (CW) event on Oct. 29 reflects the generous and altruistic spirit of Tift County. Many a talented and giving soul grabbed an oar and pulled together to reach the evening’s goal.
210 CW patrons enjoyed perfect steak dinners at the two CW venues, Jim Scott’s Barn and LongHorn Steakhouse. Hats off to Manager Chris Miller and staff at Longhorn’s and to the Martins & Blands crew at the Barn for a superb culinary experience. John and Katarina Dorminy provided fine wines for the meal. The Tifton Junior Woman’s Club rendered yeoman service, which was greatly appreciated by waiters, staff and patrons alike.
An exceptional committee of Foundation Board members made up of Tammy Griffin, Tracy Monk, Carla Miles, Marianna Keesee, PJ Kemeness, Kelli Ferner, Paige Keith and Moppy Brumby organized the event. Eight weeks of meticulous planning and hard work resulted in a grand success.
Thank you to the 210 patrons who tipped so prodigiously to help the Foundation pursue its mission of fostering and enhancing academic excellence in our schools. Since its 1989 inception, the Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence has provided 598 grants for teachers to put their best ideas into practice, “tapped” 226 educators for outstanding classroom performance, and led Tifton in its effort to attain and defend its Reading Capital of the World status.
Community service is alive and well in Tift County!

May 21 Column – George F. Will
Leaving aside the seriousness of lawlessness, and the corruption of our civic culture by the professionally pious, this past week has been amusing. There was the spectacle of advocates of an ever-larger regulatory government expressing shock about such government's large capacity for misbehavior. And, entertainingly, the answer to the question "Will Barack Obama's scandals derail his second-term agenda?" was a question: What agenda?

Letter to the Editor for May 15
As a grandson of Henry Harding Tift and a long-time resident of Tift County, I would like to tip my hat to Edd Dorminey for the pivotal role he played in petitioning the state legislature to officially recognize the original intent that Tift County be named in honor of Capt. Tift.
