Hometown Holiday Fun Run set for Dec. 1

TIFTON — The Tifton Kiwanis Club is sponsoring their eighth annual Hometown Holiday Fun Run on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.

The race is prior to the parade which starts at 5 p.m. There will be a 5K and 1-mile fun run/ walk in downtown Tifton to raise money for local youth charities, to promote physical fitness in the community and to highlight Tifton's historic district.

Frankie the Firebird mascot will be the honorary race starter and will be available for pictures with the children. More than $25,000 has been raised and over 600 people have participated in this race over the past few years.

Some of the beneficiaries of the event include: Special Olympics, the Art and Talent Showcase for local students, scholarships for ABAC and Moultrie Tech students, Fishing Rodeo for kids, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, YMCA programs, Tomorrow's Leaders program, Tift Co. recreation teams and other worthwhile causes.

The Kiwanis motto is: "Serving the Children of the World."  Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. 100 percent of the sponsorship proceeds will go towards our youth-related charities.

A cash prize will be available to the top male and female finishers and all participants will be eligible to go to the Christmas tree for a gift/prize donated by local businesses.  To enter the Fun Run go to Active.com, or runners and potential sponsors can contact Tom Shoup at 382-7153 or tlshoup@dishmail.net.
