The Tiftarea Tidal Wave swim team did well at this past weekend’s Georgia Recreation and Parks Association B/C State Swim Meet held at the Tift County Recreation Department swim complex.
Tidal Wave winners were Ansley Mobley in the girls 11-12 100-yard freestyle; the boys 14-under 200-yard medley relay team of Jacob Harper, Hank McElroy, Tucker Parrish and Drew Wyatt; Annalee Atwater in the girls 15-18 50-yard butterfly; the girls 14-under 200-yard freestyle relay team of Madi Honeycutt, Ansley Mobley, Kirsten Murphy and Katelyn Seymour; and the girls 18-under 200-yard freestyle relay team of Aubree McPherson, Laurel Parrish, Mary Shoup and Annalee Atwater;
Second place finishers were Annalee L. Atwater in the girls 16-18 100-yard freestyle; as well as the the relay team of Jacob Harper, Hank McElroy, Drew Wyatt and Tucker Parrish in the boys 14-under 200-yard freestyle;
The 14-under 200-yard medley relay team of Katelyn E. Seymour, Madi Honeycutt, Kirsten Murphy and Ansley Mobley; the girls 18-under 200-yard medley relay team of Mary Shoup, Annalee Atwater, Savannah Griffin and Aubree McPherson; Hank McElroy in the boys 13-14 50-yard breaststroke; and Jacob Redd in the boys 11-12 50-yard backstroke all finished third.
Tucker L. Parrish, boys 13-14 100-yard freestyle; Mary Shoup, girls 15-18 100-yard IM; and Katelyn Seymour, girls 13-14 50-yard butterfly, were among the fourth place finishers.
Finishing fifth were the boys 18-under 200-yard medley relay team of Benjamin Deen, Conner Cross, Hunter Cross, Connor Jacobson, Noah Daniel and Coleman Griffin; Conner Cross in the boys 15-18 50-yard breaststroke; Griffin Parrish in the boys 11-12 50-yard butterfly; Tucker Parrish in the boys 13-14 50-yard butterfly; Savannah Griffin in the girls 15-18 50-yard butterfly; and the boys 18-under 200-yard freestyle relay team of Benjamin Deen, Connor Jacobson, Hunter Cross and Conner Cross.
Sixth place finishers were Jacob T. Redd in the boys 11-12 100-yard freestyle; Aubree McPherson in the girls 15-18 50-yard freestyle; Kirsten Murphy in the girls 11-12 100-yard IM; Katelyn Seymour in the girls 13-14 50-yard backstroke; Mary Shoup in the girls 15-18 50-yard backstroke; and Kirsten Murphy in the girls 11-12 50-yard butterfly.
Among the swimmers that finished seventh were Ansley Mobley, the girls 11-12 50-yard freestyle; Jacob Harper, the boys 13-14 50-yard freestyle; Hunter Cross, the boys 15-18 100-yard IM; and Savannah Griffin, the girls 15-18 50-yard backstroke.
Tidal Wave swimmers that finished eighth were Conner Cross in the boys 15-18 100-yard freestyle; Griffin Parrish in the boys 11-12 100-yard IM; Madi Honeycutt in the girls 13-14 100-yard IM; and the relay team of Alex Hardy, Madeline Strickland, Liz Mann, Savannah Griffin and Katelyn Seymour in the girls 18-under 200-yard freestyle.

Two from Tift named 1st team All-Region
The Tift County Blue Devils, who were only just barely eliminated in the state quarterfinals, placed two players on the All-Region team for 1-AAAAAA. The region, which sent three teams to the elite eight in the state tournament, named Lowndes’ Danny Redshaw Coach of the Year.

Battle for state golf title held at Spring Hill
Spring Hill Country Club was temporarily home to 16 different schools Monday. All 16 locked irons in a battle for the Class AAAAAA state boys golf championship. After the dust had settled, top honors had gone to the Norcross Blue Devils, who finished two strokes ahead of the Peachtree Ridge Lions, 294-296.

The future looks bright for Tift County gymnastics if Brooke Spurlin’s recent showing at the USA Gymnastics Level 6 state meet is any indication.

Tift County High has summer basketball camp
Boys and girls basketball camps will be held at the Tift County High gymnasium for kids in grades Pre K-6, directed by Lady Devils head coach Julie Conner. There are several different camps being offered, including sessions in June and July.

Spring game goes well for Devils
The blue squad was the victors 17-10 over the white team Friday in the annual Tift County Blue Devils spring game. The contest was the first preview of the 2013 team, which opens the regular season on Friday, August 30, with a home game against the Westover Patriots.

ABAC tennis finishes 9th in nation
The ABAC Stallions are returning from Dallas, Texas as the nation’s ninth best tennis team in the NJCAA tournament. In addition to the national honors, one singles player and one doubles team advanced to the semifinals in their brackets. First place went to Tyler (Texas) Junior College, who totaled 47 points. ABAC had 24.5.

Summer tennis camp at ABAC June 24-27
Middle school and high school tennis players who want to improve all phases of their game should sign up for the summer tennis camp June 24-27 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required.
