It was announced by the Georgia High School Football Daily e-mail newsletter this week that Fitzgerald High School’s Tolerance Shepherd, shown above scoring against Cook High this season, has been named to the South roster for the annual North-South All-Star football game. Shepherd had 1,564 yards rushing on 183 carries this past season, and scored 20 touchdowns. Cook High wide receiver Travin Henry will also represent the Tiftarea in the game, which will be played Dec. 30 in Columbus. Other players could also be picked from the area as the roster is not yet finalized.

Tift County basketball teams ready for state playoffs
The Tift County Lady Devils will open the Class AAAAA girls state basketball playoffs at Stephenson Friday at 6 p.m.
The Tift County Blue Devils will open the Class AAAAA boys state basketball playoffs at home Saturday at 6 p.m. against Westlake.

Globetrotters coming to Albany
The familiar music of “Sweet Georgia Brown” will be in the air Thursday, March 1, at the Albany Civic Center as the Harlem Globetrotters hit the basketball court.

Blue Devils host Westlake in huge first round state playoff tilt

Blue Devils lose to Valdosta, finish second in region.
The Tift County Blue Devils could not overcome nine 3-pointers from the Valdosta Wildcats as they lost 66-65 in the region championship game.
Valdosta also converted 10-13 free throws while Tift hit 7-12.
Tadric Jackson led the Blue Devils with 20 points, 18 of those coming in the second half.
The Blue Devils will host either Westlake High or Stephenson High, most likely on next Saturday.

Tift Lady Devils going to state
After an emotional 42-38 win Tuesday night over the Coffee High Lady Trojans in the play-in game of the Region 1-AAAAA basketball tournament, the Tift County Lady Devils know they will be back in the state playoffs as one of the four teams from the league.
