TIFTON — The home-standing Tift County cross country teams each placed first in Saturday’s Blue Devil Invitational at E.B. Hamilton Complex.
The girls defeated region rival Valdosta by one point, and six points over Colquitt County.
Carlie Couch placed fourth overall with a time of 21:58, and Kelly Murray finished eighth, with a time of 24:02. Both Couch and Murray received a medal for placing in the Top 10.
Ginger Gatewood just missed a medal, placing 11th overall, while Sara Katherine Bowen was 14th and Kendal King placed 17th overall.
Other Lady Devil runners included Hannah Lee (19th), Ali Gann (30th), Lawson Barber (32nd), Elizabeth Collier (34th), and Jaclyn Harten (39th).
In boys’ action, Tift finished with 30 points, easily outdistancing second place Bainbridge (85 points), Valdosta (92) and Fitzgerald (99).
Hunter Honeycutt finished first in the meet, with a time of 17:09. Christian Neal was fourth with a time of 18:38, while Blake Hightower placed sixth with an 18:44. Zack Dorminey also earned a medal with his eighth place finish of 18:55, and Artemio Gomez placed 11th with a time of 19:04.
Other Blue Devils that competed were Chance Anderson (18th), Drew Jones (24th), and James Fisher (34th)
“The guys and girls did an awesome job (Saturday),” head coach Patti Barber said.
Tift will run again Saturday in the Bainbridge Bearcat Invitational.
