TIFTON —
The Turner County Rebels split Saturday’s games with the Wilcox County Patriots in games played in Rochelle.
The Lady Rebels had little trouble with their oppoents, decimating the Lady Patriots, 61-12. They are now 9-3 on the season, and a perfect 5-0 in Region 2-A.
Wilcox turned the tables in the boys contest, ending the Rebels undefeated streak in the region with a 81-76 victory. Turner’s record falls to 9-3.
In the initial Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll that was published Sunday, Turner County is ranked No. 9 in Class A. Wilcox is No. 3. The poll combines public and private schools.
The Rebels will be busy this week. Tonight, they play the Telfair County Trojans in McRae. Friday sees them head south to Statenville for games with the Echols County Wildcats. They finally return home Saturday when the Crisp County Cougars come to Ashburn.

Imagine a player averaging 29 points per game for a career and receiving no college scholarship offers. That happened to Dona Fields.
Fields, as Dona Gaskins, is easily Berrien High's all-time leading scorer. She scored her 1,000th point as a sophomore and during her last three seasons was the Rebelettes' leading scorer in every game. She received no college attention, no offers. -

The Tift County Recreation Department will be hosting two baseball tournaments at E.B. Hamilton Complex, starting Saturday. Both the Mite Live Arm and Midget Major tournaments will be played through June 26.

Tidal Wave takes third triumph at Georgia Games
The Tiftarea Tidal Wave improved to 3-0 with their victory June 15 at the Georgia Games. The team placed many swimmers in competition, including several first and second place finishers.

Brumby’s camp making quite a racket
Mike Brumby does not stay in one place for too long on the tennis courts. He has a full load of players at ABAC Friday, and he paces back and forth, court to court. One minute, he is giving encouragement, the next he is asking players to come over for an interview. Shortly, he has everyone gathered up outside the courts.
He is checking to see who is here. Then he moves into pairing them up into matches. -
Tiftarea teams stay closer to home in 2013
Good news for Tiftarea teams. The road games this year will be a little closer. There will be no 200+ mile trips, at least not in the regular season. The regular season will kick off with a pair of games on August 23.
