TIFTON — The Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane will matchup with another undefeated football team Friday when it faces the Mitchell-Baker Eagles at home.
The Hurricane and the Eagles are both 2-0 entering the Region 1-AA contest. Coming off a 41-13 drubbing of Randolph-Clay to start region play, Fitzgerald looks to keep rolling against Mitchell-Baker.
Although Mitchell-Baker is undefeated, its wins were over Pelham and Montgomery County, which are not usually among the top teams. Fitzgerald’s other win came against its arch-rival Irwin County.
So far, the Fitzgerald running game led by runners Dion Ross and Nick Williams has dominated opponents. Those players each gained over 100 yards in the blowout at Randolph-Clay. The defense has also been stout with the first team allowing few if any touchdowns in the first two games.
Mitchell-Baker is led by a couple of college prospects on defense — defensive lineman Patrick Davis (6-foot, 245) and linebacker Svante Wright (5-foot-11, 210).
The offense is centered around a pair of college prospects on the line, center Curtis Morgan (5-foot-11, 205) and tackle Corey Silas (5-foot-11, 235). Wide receiver Chuck Thomas (5-foot-10, 150) will have quarterback Colin Florence (6-foot-2, 190) throwing to him.
