The Tift County Blue Devils ninth grade and junior varsity football teams played Thursday on the road. In a ninth grade game, the Devils got a 36-20 victory at Colquitt County. However, the junior varsity Devils fell by a 16-8 score at Valdosta.
In Moultrie, Tift’s Jack Pascal opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run. He also added the two-point conversion on the play.
The Devils scored again when Malcom Dixon connected with Jarrod Bateman on a 40-yard touchdown pass. Pascal added the two-point conversion with a run. Dixon later added another score on a 1-yard quarterback sneak. The try for two failed.
Tift added two more points on a safety when the Colquitt center snapped the ball over the quarterback’s head and it went out of the end zone.
The scoring ended for the Devils on a 5-yard touchdown run by Jakiel McCray and a 2-yard run by Pascal. The try for two failed on both scores.
Defensively Hunter McAllister and Chad Bowen each had interceptions, while Matt Nelson was credited with several big hits, Tift coaches said.
In the junior varsity game, Valdosta jumped out to a 16-0 lead.
Tift finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Nick Prostko hit Jared Davis on a 70-yard touchdown pass. Blake Massey caught a Prostko pass for the two-point conversion.
The defenses held the rest of the way.
