TIFTON — This week’s GaSports.com Football Coaches Class AAAAA Football Poll for the second straight week has the Tift County Blue Devils on top.
The number of coaches who take part in the poll is not known, but every head coach in the state of Georgia is eligible.
They are joined by fellow Region 1-AAAAA members Coffee at No. 7 and Colquitt County at No. 9.
Tift will play Coffee this Friday at Jardine Stadium in Douglas.
“Coffee are the best team we have faced this year,” Tift head coach Jay Walls said. “They beat Colquitt last week (39-37) and Colquitt was ranked No. 1 last week (tied with Tift for top spot in Associated Press poll), so maybe Coffee should be ranked No. 1 this week.”
Coffee is currently 5-1 with the only loss being a 7-0 defeat at home against Lowndes High.
“They are definitely a very good football team,” said Walls.
Other teams of local interest are ranked in the Class AA Coaches Poll as it has Charlton County at No. 1 and Fitzgerald at No. 4.
In Class A, Hawkinsville is No. 2, Turner County is No. 3, Clinch County is No. 5, Dooly County is No. 7 and Wilcox County is No. 9.
The Irwin County Indians are the only team in the Region 2-A Subregion A not ranked this week. The other teams in the subregion are Hawkinsville, Turner, Dooly and Wilcox.
