TIFTON — Due to the weather, Tift County school officials decided Friday morning to postpone the Blue Devils-Warner Robins Demons football game. The contest will now be played at 8 tonight at Brodie Field.
Tift football coach Jay Walls said the decision was made to postpone the contest after he conferred with principal Mike Duck and Interim Superintendent Patrick Atwater Friday morning.
“They had contacted the emergency management people and also the National Weather Service and they realized there was a likelihood of severe weather,” said Walls.
“With the forecast and with the distance that folks from Warner Robins would have to travel, the decision was made to postpone the game.”
The distance from Warner Robins to Tifton appeared to be a big influence in the decision of the Tift school officials.
In the Devils’ season opener against Brooks County, lightning caused a delay and eventual postponement after the game had started. The contest ended up being played the following day.
“We remembered the first game of the year against Brooks and we didn’t want to have people having to make that trip twice,” said Walls.
The game time was set for 8 p.m. because of several factors.
“We wanted to stick to our normal time,” said Walls. “We also wanted to give folks a chance to get to see the Georgia-Florida game in its entirety.”
Two other games in the Tiftarea were also postponed.
Dooly County will host Turner County at 7 tonight, while the Worth County Rams will be at the Crisp County Cougars at 7:30.
