TIFTON — Sean Baxley, Kaream Hess and Kevian Prather are the nominees for this week’s The Tifton Gazette Athlete of the Week.
Baxley, a senior quarterback for the Tift County Blue Devils football team, threw for 203 yards and a touchdown on 22-of-38 passing in his team’s 22-7 win over East Coweta in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs Friday in Tifton. The win was the Blue Devils’ first playoff victory since 1997.
Hess, a junior running back for the Blue Devils, ran for 95 yards on 23 carries in the win against East Coweta. He also caught six passes for 39 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground.
Prather, a senior running back for the Turner County Rebels football team, gained 202 yards rushing in his team’s 33-16 win over Bryan County in the first round of the Class A playoffs Friday in Ashburn. Prather also scored two touchdowns to spur a second-half comeback for the Rebels.
