TIFTON — Turner County Rebels football player Kevian Prather was named this week’s The Tifton Gazette Athlete of the Week based on fan voting at the newspaper’s Web site.
Prather, a senior running back, earned 39.98 percent of the votes to beat out two Tift County Blue Devils football players for the award. Tift quarterback Sean Baxley received 34.25 percent of the votes while Tift running back Kaream Hess received 25.76 percent of the votes.
Prather rushed for 202 yards and scored two touchdowns in Turner’s 33-16 come-from-behind win over Bryan County in the first round of the Class A playoffs Nov. 17 in Ashburn. Baxley completed 22-of-38 passes for 203 yards and one touchdown in Tift’s 22-7 win over East Coweta in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs Nov. 17 in Tifton. Hess rushed for 95 yards and caught six passes for 36 yards in the win over East Coweta.
The candidates for next week’s athlete of the week will be announced in Sunday’s edition of The Tifton Gazette. Readers can vote for their favorite players at the newspaper’s Web site, www.tiftongazette.com.
