TIFTON — The final rosters for the GACA North/South All-Star Football Game were announced earlier this week. The game will be played at 2 p.m. Dec. 29 at Columbus’ Memorial Stadium.
Tift County’s Charlie Edwards and Israel Troupe were previously announced as participants for the game, which will also feature Blue Devil Head Coach Jay Walls as one of the assistants on the South staff under Houston County’s Doug Johnson.
Edwards and Troupe will be joined by a number of other players from Region 1-AAAAA.
Those players include Colquitt County’s Vance Cuff, Coffee High’s Quam Hancock, Houston County’s Eric O’Neal and Ben Collins, Lowndes High’s Devaris Leonard, Valdosta High’s Lawrence McCoy, and Warner Robins’ Bryan Buford and Robert Luciano.
Also joining Edwards and Troupe will be two other players from the Tiftarea, Fitzgerald’s Travis Fleming and Berrien High’s Tanner Strickland.
One other player with a local connection, Bryan Ellis, will also suit up for the South squad.
Ellis was the All-Tiftarea quarterback for three years as a Tiftarea Academy Panther. He moved to Peach County for his senior year and led the Trojans to the Class AAA state title.
“We had a coaches meeting (after the roster was announced), and we all tried to figure out how we are going to get all of these guys involved,” Walls said. “It is going to be a fun problem to have.
“We are expecting a fun week.”
