Berrien Rebels come back to defeat Lanier

By Gazette Staff

Kal Simmons found Tre Harris for a 25-yard touchdown pass with 4:44 remaining in the game to give the Berrien Rebels a 16-10 win over Lanier County at Roquemore Stadium in Lakeland.

The Rebels were plagued by six turnovers, but the Berrien defense stood tall on nearly each occasion.

With Lanier leading 7-0, Simmons found Asa Adkins on an 18-yard touchdown pass. An offsides penalty gave the Rebels the ball on the 1 yard line, and coach Ryan Branch decided to go for two. The try was successful and Berrien led 8-7.

The Bulldogs retook the lead with a field goal, making the score 10-8 in the third quarter.

But Simmons found Harris, who tightroped the sidelines for the game winning score. Tre Harris sealed the game for Berrien with an interception late in the fourth quarter.

The Rebels (2-0) will host Irwin County Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Indians (1-1) upset Clinch County by a 14-7 score in Homerville.

In Sylvester, the Worth County Rams were defeated by Woodland of Henry County 31-13 at Milt Miller Field.

Woodland jumped out to a 15- point lead, and the Rams had to play catch-up, as the Wolfpack scored the first four touchdowns of the game.

The Wolfpack completed 15-of-28 passes for 228 yards and rushed for 63 more in the contest. Worth rushed for 110 yards on 34 attempts, and completed 9-of-27 passes, for 114 yards.

Worth’s Rodney Farley had 80 yards rushing on 10 attempts from his quarterback position. Farley found tight end Justin Tukes four times for 50 yards.

The Rams will travel to Fitzgerald to meet the Purple Hurricane Friday night.
