Registation for spring sports ending soon at Tifton YMCA

TIFTON — Registration is open for spring sports occurring at the Tifton YMCA, but is ending on Friday, Feb. 15.

T-ball is available for children aged 3-6 and soccer is for youth, 3-12. Divisions for teens will be added if there is enough interest. The cost per athlete is $45 for members and $65 for non-members.

For both sports, practice opens the week of Feb. 25 and the season runs from March 23 through May 11. There will be a coaches meeting on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. and coaches are still needed for t-ball and soccer. Registration forms can be e-mailed, faxed or picked up at the YMCA.

The YMCA is also offering Kids University arts and science enrichment classes at most Tift County elementary schools. The program will last until 4:30 p.m. and runs between the week of Feb. 25 through the fourth nine weeks. The cost is $69 for members and $89 for non-members Space is limited.

The 2013 Father/Daughter dance will be taking place on Feb. 28 at the UGA Conference Center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $35 per couple, plus $15 for each additional daughter and may be purchased at the YMCA or Creation Station.

    The Tift County Blue Devils, who were only just barely eliminated in the state quarterfinals, placed two players on the All-Region team for 1-AAAAAA. The region, which sent three teams to the elite eight in the state tournament, named Lowndes’ Danny Redshaw Coach of the Year.

  • Battle for state golf title held at Spring Hill

    Spring Hill Country Club was temporarily home to 16 different schools Monday. All 16 locked irons in a battle for the Class AAAAAA state boys golf championship. After the dust had settled, top honors had gone to the Norcross Blue Devils, who finished two strokes ahead of the Peachtree Ridge Lions, 294-296.

  • Tift County High has summer basketball camp

    Boys and girls basketball camps will be held at the Tift County High gymnasium for kids in grades Pre K-6, directed by Lady Devils head coach Julie Conner. There are several different camps being offered, including sessions in June and July.

     The blue squad was the victors 17-10 over the white team Friday in the annual Tift County Blue Devils spring game. The contest was the first preview of the 2013 team, which opens the regular season on Friday, August 30, with a home game against the Westover Patriots.
