TIFTON —
After watching her daughter, Becca, being taken off the football field on a stretcher Friday night, Cindy Hasty was breathing a sigh of relief Saturday.
A Tift County High senior cheerleader, Becca Hasty was injured during Tift’s football game with the Worth County Rams with 11:52 left in the fourth quarter. A pass play ended with players going out-of-bounds and in the melee, Becca was injured.
Afterwards she went to the emergency room, where she spent the night. Even though it was a rough night, there was a light at the end of the tunnel.
“She is doing fine. She went through multiple X-rays, and they found no fractures,” said Cindy Hasty of her daughter. “She is home today (Saturday). She is bruised, very stiff and very sore, but she is resting well.”
Her mother was very thankful for all of the support.
“She took a hard hit,” said Cindy Hasty. “She was definitely in God’s hands afterwards.”
As of now, the news is so good there is a chance that Becca will be back in time for the Blue Devils’ homecoming game Friday against Glynn Academy.
“She will have to go back to the doctor early next week and get cleared first,” said Cindy Hasty. “She is planning on cheering again. She wants to be there for homecoming.”
No matter what happens, the Hastys were very thankful for the concern shown them Friday night.
After the injury, players from both teams took knees in respect to Hasty as she came off the field.
“She didn’t know the game stopped because of her, but she realized it when she saw (Tift County Head Football) Coach (Jay) Walls standing over her,” said Cindy Hasty. “That meant a lot to her.
“We also had several people call, text and offer their prayers,” said Cindy Hasty. “We are very thankful to everyone.”
