The first ever Middle School Blue Devil Inivitational was held yesterday with five teams participating: A combined Tift County Middle team of J.T. Reddick and Eighth Street Middle, Colquitt County Middle, Coffee Middle, MacIntyre Park Elementary of Thomasville, and Lee County Middle.
The boys teams results were:
1st, Coffee Middle (164 points), 2nd, Tift County (125), 3rd, MacIntyre Park (124), 4th, Lee County Middle (42), 5th, Colquitt County Middle (20)
The girls teams results were:
1st, Tift County (191 points), 2nd, Coffee Middle (101), 3rd, Lee County Middle (82), 4th, Colquitt County Middle (73), 5th, MacIntyre Park (52)
The Tift County girls team stayed undefeated, having never lost a meet since the program began last year. The boys stayed in its battle of first or second place finishes.
Tift County standouts were: Autumn Hardy (J.T. Reddick) and Sarah Lawson went one-two in the 200 freestyle, Tyler Coker won 200 freestyle, Ansley Mobley won the 50 free and 100 free setting school records in both.
Jacob Harper (8th) won the 50 freestyle with a school record. Stephanie Connell followed Mobley with a 2nd place finish in the 100 free. Emily Moore took 3rd in the 100 fly. Casey Hall took 2nd in the 500 freestyle with Sarah Lawson and LauraKate Brock getting 4th and 5th. Jacob Redd got first in the 500 free.
The relay team of Casey Hall, Emily Moore, Stephanie Connell, and Ansley Mobley got first in both the 200 free and 400 freestyle relays. Casey Hall won 100 backstroke with a record time. Jacob Harper and Tommy Fraizer went 1 and 3 in the 100 backstroke. The relay team of Claire Ryland, Venice Redmon, Autumn Hardy, and Julianna Cross got 2nd in the 400 free relay and Tyler Coker, Jacob Redd, Eric Atkins and Jacob Harper won the 400 free relay.

Larry Dean coming home to host camp
With help from the Tift County High Blue Devil football team and the Tift County Recreation Department, Minnesota Viking Larry Dean will return home to Tifton June 29 for his first-ever Larry Dean Football & Cheer Camp.

Proud of diamond accomplishments of Devils, Panthers
Tift County almost pulled off an incredible feat this year, having two teams in the baseball quarterfinals.. It was a great year for baseball at all area schools, all eight of them in the postseason. Both Kyle Kirk's Tift County Blue Devils and Brad Porter's Tiftarea Academy Panthers came within an eyelash of doing even better: the final four.

Couch named Region 1-AAAAAA Player of the Year
Tift County High Lady Devil Carlie Couch was named Region 1-AAAAAA’s girls soccer Player of the Year and was one of 11 players from both squads to have been selected to the all-region team. The Lady Devils, who advanced to the state quarterfinals, had six of them.

Gattis’ grand slam leads Braves past Twins 8-3
Evan Gattis no longer seems amazed by his improbable rookie season.
Yet, there are still times when it’s a bit of an adjustment for the Atlanta Braves catcher.
Like when someone recognizes him in the grocery store.
“It’s a little weird,” the 26-year-old Gattis said. “I’m not used to that yet.” -
Two from Tift named 1st team All-Region
The Tift County Blue Devils, who were only just barely eliminated in the state quarterfinals, placed two players on the All-Region team for 1-AAAAAA. The region, which sent three teams to the elite eight in the state tournament, named Lowndes’ Danny Redshaw Coach of the Year.

Battle for state golf title held at Spring Hill
Spring Hill Country Club was temporarily home to 16 different schools Monday. All 16 locked irons in a battle for the Class AAAAAA state boys golf championship. After the dust had settled, top honors had gone to the Norcross Blue Devils, who finished two strokes ahead of the Peachtree Ridge Lions, 294-296.
