TIFTON — Eighth Street’s eighth-grade baseball team committed seven errors in an 8-4 loss to Coffee Middle School Monday at Northeast Campus, Tift County High School.

The loss drops the Devils to 4-2, while the Trojans improve to 4-2 with the victory.

Coffee got a single run in the top of the first after a leadoff walk. A wild pitch and pass ball allowed the runner to score to give the Trojans and starter Jarred Spivey an early 1-0 lead.

Eighth Street answered with a run in the third. Will Boothe drew a one-out walk, and stole second. On the steal, the ball went into center field, and Boothe moved up 90 feet to third base. After a strikeout, Zach Bullard singled to score Boothe and tie the game.

Coffee came back with three runs in the next inning. The Trojans got a 2-RBI single from Landon Henderson, who advanced to third on a throwing error. Henderson then scored on a wild pitch to give the Trojans a 4-1 lead.

Coffee picked up two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

Down 7-1 in the sixth, Alex Abbott led off with a homer, followed by a double off the bat of Blake Suggs. Will Reinhardt and Austin Avant had back-to-back hits to cut the Eighth Street deficit to 7-4.

But the Trojans added a run in their final at bat and Keegan McGovern struck out the side in the seventh to earn the save.

Avant had three hits in the game for the Blue Devils. Eighth Street will face Pine Grove today in Lowndes County.
