Powell does well at National Kicking Championship

TAMPA, Fla. — The Ray Guy/ProKicker.com Kicking Academy has recently announced that Ike Powell of Tift County High School in Tifton, has been named to its 2012 National Kicking Championship Top 10 Leader board.

Powell was one of an elite group of high school athletes that attended the Ray Guy/ProKicker.com National Kicking Championship held in Tampa, Fla. The National Kicking Championship gives kickers, punters, and long snappers the opportunity to go head to head in competition with the nation's top prospects.

“Kickers, punters, and long snappers have a tremendous opportunity to go ‘head to head’ in competition, train with the most talented athletes in the country, and prove who is the best,” said NFL all-time team member, Ray Guy.

Athletes who attended the National Kicking Championship were individually evaluated and graded on facets of kicking, punting, and long snapping such as accuracy, timing, and distance. Powell’s performances put him at the top of the list. His snap time of 0.81 put him at the top of the list for high school long snappers.

Countless participants of the Ray Guy/ProKicker.com Kicking Academy have gone on to earn college scholarships, and continually set new standards on the collegiate and professional levels. Presently there are 707 alumni on college rosters and 18 alumni active on NFL rosters.
