TIFTON —
Tift County High School air rifle shooters added another win for the new season defeating the Worth County High Rams by a score of 1,115 to 1,108.
Tift's shooters defeated Worth by 22 points in the standing position, the most difficult of the three. "Standing position is where you win matches," said Coach Julie Rucker.
"We spend a lot of time on the standing position in practice. Most teams can give a good prone score, but everyone struggles with standing."
Tift will need all of their shooters in top form next Tuesday night when they host the Colquitt County Packers in their first home match of the season. Colquitt is a team that is known for shooting well in all three positions.
"Colquitt defeated Worth by shooting 1,120 last week," said Rucker, pointing out that her squad hasn't reached that mark yet in a match. They are five points away.
"I know we have the ability to beat Colquitt this year, but we need all of our shooters mentally ready for the match."
"While our score was the same as our last match score, I did see improvement with some of our shooters," said Rucker. The trick is to have everyone shooting their best scores on the same night.
Because of Worth's small shooting range, Tift could only field six shooters for the match. Hannah Rucker was high individual shooting a personal high of 287. Senior Brooke Hester was right behind Rucker with a 285. Shelby Gates (274) and Dylan Merritt (269) were the top four for Tift.
Worth's top shooter was Spencer Tucker who shot a 382.
