TIFTON —
A husband and wife from the Atlanta area will be presenting “The Real Golden Girls” theatrical stage play at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Tift Theatre for Performing Arts.
Willie Jones Jr., originally from Albany, and his wife, Tawanda, originally from Chicago, began their careers with acting and eventually ventured out and decided to work together as playwrights. Thus, W.T. Jones Studios was established in 2010.
Tawanda said she and her husband have written five plays, including a romantic comedy called “I Do, Maybe?,” which they plan to make into a movie. Also, they’re working on completing more stage plays, such as “The Little Rascals,” which is a play about bullying. Tawanda stated that the plays are used as fundraisers to help with movie expenses.
She explained that when writing a play, she and Jones first come up with ideas and then the writing process begins.
“It works,” she stated, referring to them working together as a married couple.
Tawanda and Jones wrote their own script for “The Real Golden Girls” play. She noted that they only took the characters from the Golden Girls television show.
According to a press release, the play “will be an exciting theatrical performance. If you loved the Golden Girls on television, then you definitely don’t want to miss ‘The Real Golden Girls’ hit stage play as we entertain you with this comedy in Tifton...”
This is a one-day event. “The Real Golden Girls” will tour all 50 states.
According to Tawanda and Jones, their mission with W.T. Jones Studios is to engage audiences in imaginative reflection on the complexities of contemporary life. They present bold, original, well-crafted productions that represent a range of voices, viewpoints and styles.
They stated, “Our stage plays will keep your curiosity and keep you entertained.”
The cast of “The Real Golden Girls” consists of Georgia’s most sought after talent, starring Alpha Trivette (actor, radio personality), A. Sabrena Farmer, Becky Taylor, Trent Horn, Carl J. Windom, Alfred Pierce, Mickie Pollock, Debi-Hett Kimsey and Kelsey Lane.
The staff for this show includes W.T. Jones Studios set designer, WFJ Print and Designs, and Stage Manager Rona Dana and D. Norris, who has worked on a lot of Hollywood movies and even Tyler Perry Productions, and Production Assistant Rhonkeita Langlois and Janique Ashford.
