Emergency Preparedness Fair held

TIFTON — The Emergency Preparedness Fair was a great success with a large community turnout Saturday at the Tift County Recreation Department Multipurpose Building on Victory Drive. The event was hosted by the Tift County Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and assisted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Vickie Hickman, TEMA deputy director, said there were approximately 42 booths. She estimated that over 350 people attended the fair. She noted that the blood drive was a big success as well. There were several speakers during the fair: Tift County Manager & National Weather Service, Tift Regional Medical Center, Conger LP Gas, Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), Bradley Place, Colquitt EMC, Larger Law Firm and Sharon Petzel, PA. Lisa Newman with GEMA said the local fair was the best turnout she’s ever seen. She noted that she travels to many of these all over the state. “I touched a lot of people who wanted to learn,” she said. Newman added that Tifton citizens are very fortunate to have such great involvement from the local TEMA.
