TIFTON —
Members of the local Alcoholics Anonymous chapter are searching for a new home. Since 1991 the group has hosted at least five meetings each week in a facility on Whiddon Mill Road that was rented from the county. Now they are being faced with eviction as the county has decided to use the property otherwise. The group will be “homeless” beginning September 27 unless they are able to secure a place to hold meetings.
The local chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous, which consists of about 30 members, is called One Day at a Time (ODAT). While members come from all walks of life and range in age from 18- 80, they come together with a common goal: to support one another’s goal of sobriety.
ODAT has exhausted its search within the county, but is now calling on community members to speak up. “If you have a place, or know of a place that we can use- permanently or even temporarily- we would love to learn more about it. For us, AA is more than a social gathering; it is a way of life,” pleaded a local member.
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share experiences, strength and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and help others recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; the organization is self-supporting through internal contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Their primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

May 21 Column – George F. Will
Leaving aside the seriousness of lawlessness, and the corruption of our civic culture by the professionally pious, this past week has been amusing. There was the spectacle of advocates of an ever-larger regulatory government expressing shock about such government's large capacity for misbehavior. And, entertainingly, the answer to the question "Will Barack Obama's scandals derail his second-term agenda?" was a question: What agenda?
