VALDOSTA —
A collision between a car and a motorcycle resulted in a fatality Friday afternoon, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Patterson Street and Cranford Avenue at around 12:59 p.m., according to Commander Brian Childress of the Valdosta Police Department.
The preliminary investigation into the accident suggests that the car’s operator was at fault in the incident, but Childress said the investigation was not complete.
He said the collision appeared to have been triggered when the car’s driver struck the motorcycle while attempting to merge onto Patterson Street from Cranford Avenue.
Both parties were transported to South Georgia Medical Center where the driver of the car, a green Honda Civic, received treatment, said Childress. The operator of the motorcycle, a Suzuki GSX 1300, was pronounced dead at the hospital, stated Childress.
“The Valdosta Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the accident,” said Childress. “The case is under investigation, but charges are pending. (The car’s driver) is not in custody, but the investigation is ongoing.”

Tattnall Square tops Tiftarea, 6-2
Ernie Banks used to say, "let's play two." In a game that was as long as two and was defined early on by errors and later by a pitching duel, it would be offense that propelled the Tattnall Square Trojans past the Tiftarea Academy Panthers, 6-2 in 14 innings. Tattnall, who won the first game of the series, 4-1 before dropping game two, 6-3, will meet Mount de Sales in the Class AAA semifinals next week.
